A client with a busy office of 250+ employees wanted to dramatically improve the working environment for their staff, focusing on spaces that everyone would see and appreciate daily. One particular area that needed urgent attention was a built-in cloakroom structure that disguised the office bathrooms, functional but rather uninspiring.
This cloakroom featured a large flat surface that ran along the top, creating a prominent horizontal line that was visible from virtually every desk in the open-plan office. Day after day, staff looked up from their workstations to see this bland structure dominating their sight lines. The client recognized this as a missed opportunity, instead of this dead space being something people had to look past, why couldn't it become something beautiful that people actually enjoyed seeing?
THE CHALLENGE
The challenge was creating something that would work from multiple perspectives. Whatever we installed needed to look stunning from the office side where staff worked, but also enhance the cloakroom area itself. The solution had to be substantial enough to make a real visual impact across such a large workspace, yet sophisticated enough to complement their professional environment. With 250+ people using this space daily, it also needed to be completely maintenance-free and robust enough to handle the bustle of a busy office
OUR UNDERSTANDING
We spent time in the office understanding how people moved through and used the space, observing the sight lines from different desk positions and discussing with our client exactly how they envisioned staff feeling when they looked up from their work. We created bespoke planters that perfectly matched the existing paintwork, ensuring they felt integrated rather than like an obvious addition. These custom-designed plant trays were strategically positioned along the cloakroom's flat surface to maximize visual impact from every angle.
OUR PROCESS
We filled these beautiful planters with a carefully curated selection of warm climate tropical plants chosen specifically for their cascading, trailing qualities. Lush greenery spilled over the edges and cascaded down the sides of the wall, creating this gorgeous living curtain that decorated both the office side and the cloakroom side. The plants were deliberately chosen to be "double-sided", looking equally stunning whether viewed from someone's desk or from within the cloakroom area itself.
The composition created visual interest throughout the day as people walked past, with different varieties providing varying textures, colors, and trailing patterns. Some plants created gentle draping effects while others offered more structured cascading forms, building up layers of visual richness that transformed the entire space.
BEFORE & AFTER
THE RESULTS
The result was remarkable, what had been a bland, stark structure became this gorgeous living feature that staff genuinely loved looking at. The installation brought natural beauty into their daily work environment without any ongoing maintenance concerns. Our client was absolutely delighted with how it enhanced the overall office atmosphere, turning a functional necessity into one of the space's most appreciated design features. Staff regularly commented on how much more pleasant and inspiring their workspace felt, proving that thoughtful greenery really can make a significant difference to workplace wellbeing.
